Emotivism

The idea that moral statements are merely expressions of emotion.

Moral statements like “homosexuality is wrong/right” are often treated as objective truths, but they are better understood as shorthand expressions of subjective attitudes: “I dislike homosexuality. I want you to dislike homosexuality. I believe homosexuals should be prohibited.” Expressing them as objective masks their human origin, lends undue authority, erases context, externalises responsibility, reinforces social norms, & suppresses dissent. The difference is not in meaning, but in presentation: the objective form implies universal truth, while the subjective form transparently communicates personal or cultural judgment.
